Booker Prize Rachel Kushner Short List Percival Everett Literature

Rachel Kushner and Percival Everett Make the Booker Prize Shortlist

American authors Rachel Kushner and Percival Everett are among the six authors shortlisted for the 2023 Booker Prize.

The Booker Prize is one of the most prestigious literary awards in the world, and it is awarded to the best novel written in English and published in the UK or Ireland.

Kushner's novel, The Mars Room, is a story about a woman who is sentenced to life in prison for killing her abusive ex-boyfriend. Everett's novel, The Trees, is a story about a black man who is lynched in the American South.

The other authors on the shortlist are:

  • Shehan Karunatilaka for The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida
  • Alan Garner for Treacle Walker
  • NoViolet Bulawayo for Glory
  • Elizabeth Strout for Oh William!

The winner of the Booker Prize will be announced on October 17th. This is an exciting achievement for both Kushner and Everett.

Rachel Kushner:

Rachel Kushner's novel, "The Flamethrowers," was a finalist for the 2013 National Book Award. Her work has been translated into more than 20 languages. She is a graduate of Columbia University and the Iowa Writers' Workshop.

Percival Everett:

Percival Everett is the author of 20 novels, including "Erasure" and "The Water Cure." He is a professor of English at the University of Southern California. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the National Book Critics Circle Award and the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction.

The Booker Prize is one of the most prestigious literary awards in the world. It is awarded annually to the best novel written in English and published in the UK or Ireland. The prize is open to all writers, regardless of nationality, and is judged by a panel of five literary experts.
